Coming out of St. Louis, Missouri, and now residing in Gainesville, Florida as a Florida Gator, Brandon McKissic is an unstoppable force on the court. Successfully playing four years at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Brandon felt closing out his college career at the University of Florida would be the best way to showcase his talents at the highest level. Sophomore year of high school, his coach told him he saw his true potential and encouraged him to focus solely on basketball over other sports, from then on, things have only gone up. Being from St. Louis, Brandon grew up around a prominent underground hip-hop scene and his music taste is a reflection of these surroundings. His playlist features music from local artist Wockkbaby with singles “ForMe” and “ForTheOpps” making an appearance. Brandon admires artists such as Lil Durk, naming him as not only his favorite rapper but someone who he looks up to. Admiring Durk's ambition and work ethic, focusing on his craft to reach the top. Not only rising to success off of his passion but making sure those around him are taken care of as well. Brandon aspires to keep working to ensure his family is taken care of and able to make it out of St. Louis.
When it comes time to prepare for a game Brandon turns to music in order to put himself in the right headspace. On his playlist, you’ll find tracks that embody the sacrifice and drive needed to earn your success story. Featuring artists such as Lil Baby, Gunna, and Lil Durk these rappers are known for their authenticity and ground-up career paths. Brandon’s passion is basketball as he’s always loved it but found himself having to put in the same groundwork and sacrifice as artists. The work paid off and he’s a strong believer that you should never limit yourself to whatever people say about you, always trust in and bet on yourself.
